Can a Finance Company hold personal paperwork such as passports and DD214s (military service records)?

Written By: aaren on December 7, 2009 2 Comments

I recently had my auto repo’d and inside were my passport and some other vital paperwork. Can a finance company hold these items? I have tried to contact them and they are unwilling to give me any info as if they are holding them ransom.

No, they cannot hold them, and those are some damned vital documents!! What would they do with all your info? Call the cops about it, and if nothing else, get a lawyer pronto!

    Best of luck.
