I have searched all the grant networks online and they want an arm and a leg to show me how to apply for a grant. I plot on opening a small business in TN in the very near future and I am a veteran. I need someone with the experience to just point me to the proper government agency to get things started.

Go to http://www.grants.gov for a list of government grants and how you can apply for them. But, there are no grants for a for profit business unless you are opening a daycare and then it is a minimal amount. If you need money, you will need to apply for a loan. No lender will talk to you unless you provide them with a valid business plot. Go to http://www.sba.gov , http://www.score.org or http://www.bplan.com for sample business plans and instructions on how to write a business plot.
Then, go to http://www.score.org/ and in the upper left hand corner, enter your zip code. On the next screen, you will get information on the nearest SCORE chapter. Call them and arrange for a free meeting with a SCORE counselor to review your business plot and discuss various loan options available to you.
SCORE is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
SCORE has 389 chapters in locations throughout the United States and its territories, with 10,500 volunteers nationwide. Both working and retired executives and business owners donate time and expertise as business counselors.
sba.gov
Small Business Administration, independent government agency. They also have local counselors who will work with you on a business plot. Excellent luck!
There are rarely real government grants to start a small business.
The grants are a myth. And that stupid guy in the yellow suit with the question mark is selling a book of lies.
You should look into contacting your closest SBA (Small Business Association) office; they are the best resource. Also try to contact your city hall and see if they have any small business programs. Here is a link for the Tennessee SBA website.

Sorry to burst your bubble but goodl luck on your business venture
Maybe you should look for an investor, find someone who would be willing to place up the costs for a share in the business…
you could question Family members, friends, colleges ect.
you just need to show them your business plans
