It doesn't take long for short term changes like account balances, payments, and available credit to show up on your credit report and effect your score -- likely these are the things to have impact over the short term, and you have a better change of fixing your score if you try to address one of those issues, which you can do easily in a matter of weeks.

Probably by as much a 20-50 pts

To find out specifically what you must do to raise your score, you can order your score report from all three national credit bureaus. In addition to your score<!--you'll get your credit report, an indication of how your score ranks nationally and an explanation of how you can boost your standing.

In order to improve your credit score, it's important to know where you stand currently. Despite all the media attention given to free credit reports-->you still have to pay to find out your credit score, the three-digit number ranging from 300 to 850 that is the key to your borrowing costs.

Unfortunately it is not that simple. One act alone for your credit score can affect other acts. And whatever else you have going in your credit file also affects your score. Your own personal situation is individual. But it should go up. The only way to check is to see your credit score before and after.

Remember paying off a loan is good, but so is continuing to make proper payments on loans. Someone who never had a loan, just paid cash for everything, will likely have a lower credit score than someone who has taken out loans and paid them on time. So your score has been going up all along, assuming you paid your car loan payments on time.
