i have a mortgage related q!! my friend saw a mortgage advisor who recommended a mortgage. he did not see any ?

My friend said he liked the look of the mortgage and that he would wait for the paperwork to arrive. the advisor questioned for his bank details and he gave them thinking it would be for the arrangement fee when he chose what mortgage he wanted. But, the advisor just went ahead with the one spoken about and the building society took a £200 booking fee!! My friend has not signed any paperwork whatsoever and after a day reflecting on it, doesnt even want that mortgage. where does he stand?? the bank cant cancel the payment, they said he can dispute it?? thanks
