Incorrectly calculated my home mortgage interest on 2007 Tax returns?

Written By: admin on December 5, 2009 One Comment

Hello,

When I filed my taxes for the year 2007, I incorrectly entered ,000 as house mortgage interest withheld for the year while I have really paid close to 20,000. I filed it electronically.
Can this be amended immediately or do I have to wait until after April 15 the 2008 to file the amendment? Please help.

Thank you in advance for your answers

File an amended tax return. Form 1040X.

You can file immediately if you want to, especially if you didn’t get a refund. If your original showed a refund, then I usually recommend you wait till that refund is processed and then file the amended return.

You do not have to wait until April 15th.
