Liberal ? — Under 40 ? — Think You ‘Know’ Recent Political History ? — Can You ‘Handle’ The TRUTH ?
Before misleading and hateful left-wing websites , there was TRUTH . Before Left-Wing Liberals started BLAMING America for the world’s problems , there was REALITY .
Read this piece that one CANADIAN felt compelled to write after watching America get trashed and bashed by foreignors . THEN , tell me . . . Does it Cause You To Reconsider Now That You Know The TRUTH ?
Broadcast June 5, 1973 – CFRB Radio, Toronto, Ontario
The United States dollar took another pounding on German, French and British exchanges this morning, hitting the lowest point ever known in West Germany. It has declined there by 41% since 1971 and this Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least-appreciated people in all the world. As long as sixty years ago, when I first started to read newspapers, I read of floods on the Yellow River and the Yangtse. Well, who rushed in with men and money to help? The Americans did, that’s who.
They have helped control floods on the Nile, the Amazon, the Ganges and the Niger. Today, the rich bottom land of the Mississippi is under water and no foreign land has sent a dollar to help. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy, were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of those countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.
When the franc was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. And I was there. I saw that.
When distant cities are hit by earthquakes, it is the United States that rushes into help… Managua Nicaragua is one of the most recent examples. So far this spring, 59 American communities have been flattened by tornadoes. Nobody has helped.
The Marshall Plot… the Truman Policy… all pumped billions upon billions of dollars into discouraged countries. And now, newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent war-mongering Americans.
I’d like to see one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplanes.
Come on… let’s hear it! Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tristar or the Douglas 10? If so, why don’t they glide them? Why do all international lines except Russia glide American planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or a women on the moon?
You talk about Japanese technocracy and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy and you find men on the moon, not once, but several times … and safely home again.
You talk about scandals and the Americans place theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at. Even the draft dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are right here on our streets in Toronto, most of them… unless they are breaking Canadian laws… are getting American dollars from Ma and Pa at home to spend here.
When the Americans get out of this bind… as they will… who could blame them if they said ‘the hell with the rest of the world’. Let someone else buy the bonds, let someone else build or repair foreign dams or design foreign buildings that won’t shake apart in earthquakes.
When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an ancient caboose. Both of them are still broke. I can name to you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in distress.
Can you name to me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in distress? I don’t reckon there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake.
Our neighbours have faced it alone and I am one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their noses at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles.
I hope Canada is not one of these. But there are many smug, self-righteous Canadians. And finally, the American Red Cross was told at its 48th Annual meeting in New Orleans this morning that it was broke.
This year’s disasters… with the year less than half-over… has taken it all and nobody… but nobody… has helped.

Thanks brother. I have seen that before but its always nice to read.
I wish our leftist brethren could speak the way this Canadian did about their own damn country.
Even though I am a conservative I wanted to read this and its perfect, one I will keep to read again. Thanks!!!
Thank you brother.
I still believe the excellent outweighs the terrible in this country although the media would like us to believe otherwise.
Before Hannity, there was truth. Before Limbaugh , there was truth. Before Savage, Beck, Levin, Coulter, and the others, there was truth. Now all there is , is lies and disinformation.
All fin e and dandy and yes we do help but remember nothing in this world is free. all of our help comes with a price not only to us but the person we help.
Thank you this posting. It is so nice to hear someone defending America for a change.
Yes. I’m liberal. Yes, I’m under 40. Yes, I reckon I "know" recent political history. And yes, I can "handle" the truth.
I also read this several years ago and have agreed with it ever since. What is it exactly that I’m supposed to reconsider?
I assign blame where it belongs. Blame America for America’s problems, and blame the world for the world’s problems.
Why are they rebuilding Iraq if they are all muslim terrorists that despise us… why not give us back our borrowed 149 billion and let us be free to spend it on ourselves..?
you seem to me to be a hateful right-wing zealot just like you proclaim the lefty’s to be
to me we need both to find balance … its the zealots on either side we could do without
Those are the things that make our country fantastic. Those who criticize the US are ignoring history.
Bill O’Reilly brought this up not too long after 9/11. It was refreshing to read.
I’m not even going to bother to Snopes this to see if it is what it is supposed to be, because whatever the source, it is still right.
Like the vast majority of liberals, I do not blame America for all that is incorrect with the world, or say that America can do nothing right. I am incredibly proud and supportive of my country, and proud to be an American. What I don’t like is the way conservatives have been trying to hijack this fantastic nation, and steer it away from principals it was founded on, the principals that make it fantastic. When people try to make America do things that are not American, that’s what liberals despise.
Wow.
This was a excellent read. Thank you for presenting it. It seems quite obvious to me, and hopefully to everyone else, that when it comes to mass populations, there is no such thing as an absolute. In other words, it is heartening to me to see my northern neighbors aren’t all "America-hating" people that the media and mostly the extremists would have us believe.
I certainly never believed it, and I’ve met some fine upstanding Canadians (mostly soldiers). God bless us all.
There is hope for us all, yet.
Nice facts, all right but not very current and that is part of the "Left’s" point. As to receiving help after 9/11 and Katrina help was offered and our government said thanks but no thanks, we’ll question if we need it. This leads to two signs of incompetence: A) we needed it and B) we refused to recognize or publicly admit it.
I reckon you just helped. Thank you.
I am a liberal and over 40. You have it incorrect if you reckon that we do not like America and appreciate all that we have done. What is infuriating is that G.W. Bush has taken all the excellent of this country and turned it into crap. America was loved and respected before he came along and tarnish our image. His cowboy diplomacy has made America a despised nation and his policies has turned American against each other. If you want to look for the source of the despise in this country look at the Neo-cons, they have used despise and dread to make being an American embarrassing.
I have no argument with this article. Yes we have been a tremendous help to those in the world who have been in need. But our hands are not clean, throughout history. We are not a perfect nation and we should not pretend to be so.
I loved this…thats one smart Canadian…I wish others would see the truth in this piece…
Thanks!
Thank you and to the libs like truth seeker LMAO everything is to blame on talk radio Right What narrow minds libs have
1. America is the greatest country in the world.
2. Our leaders sometimes make a misguided foreign policy agenda for the incorrect reasons.
I don’t see why both can’t be right.
.
I found myself wondering the same thing when Iran criticized us for what they believed was withholding support when that earthquake rocked their nation a year or so ago. In actuality, no one contributed more than we did.
Or during the Asian Tsunami…. we poured billions into that. Later that year Katrina hit… we got some help, but not much.
There is 2 things in particular that most people lie about regarding recent history. One, they ignore the Global Cooling scare and the reasons why Global Warming was first promoted (Global Warming is a myth made by Margaret Thatcher because she was trying to get a union to stop striking). Second, the left and right always claim that Ronald Reagan cut the size of government. He did nothing of the sort. Reagan would increase a program’s budget 6% instead of the usual 10% and the left would complain that he was "slashing" that program.
These are the main distortions (well, except for Waco).
My wife and I were just discussing that the other day. When was the last time any foreign nation donated anything to help America? Where was the millions of donations from around the world to help in New Orleans?
Face it people, we have been used an abused and the Left is just kicking us while we are down.
Please stop.
Fantastic post
It say it all except how the Democrats what us to fail and surrender.
Brilliant, Earnest. I have heard this before. I heard it read on the radio, perhaps by G. Gordon Liddy or some other talk show host. I’m going to copy it and show it around to my friends.
Thanks for a fantastic post!!
THANK YOU for posting this .
IF any liberals read this, it would be an accident for them to receive the message.
Who was the ancient philosopher who said some thing like ::
"Those who are entrusted with truth and facts, shall be maligned by those who prefer to dwell in the void of intellect"??
HHHMMMMM I wish I had said something like that, back in one of my previous lives, around 2315 B.C.
It’s all right, the world treats us like Rodney Dangerfield, we can’t get no respect.
Thank you so much for this article…I must have missed it the first time around, as it is new to me.
It made my eyes well up.
The wonderful feeling of pride was small lived but. As soon as I started reading the comments from the left, reality set in to the fact that NOTHING will ever get those negative people to admit the truth about America.
No matter what you reckon about the war in Iraq, America has done a thousand fold more excellent in the world than harm.
An accomplishment those who have so much disdain for their country, will never be able to claim.
PS..to quote the guy below, you ARE the man, dude….keep up the fight.
You go Earnest, you’re the man!
wow thank you for posting this. This made me sad and reckon. I’m glad someone else from another Country see what is going on. God Bless America!!!
Fascinating and kind words from the Canadian.
What does this have to do with the horrendous job that Bush is doing?
Thanks for that Earnest! I remember being taught in school what an honorable, distinguished country I am priveleged to be living in. Yes, I know all the excellent America has done and I am proud to be an American.
So Chi–I don’t reckon this is a "Bush" question. But thanks for trying to change the subject.
Fantastic read.
Too terrible there aren’t more people like that in Canada today.
You can add this to the what are liberals so upset about list.
Jay Leno wrote this; it’s the Jay Leno we don’t often see….
"The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be right given the source right?
The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are miserable with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is miserable with the performance of the president. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just isn’t pleased and want a change.
So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, ”What we are so miserable about?”
Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter? Could it be that 95.4 percent of these miserable folks have a job? Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?
Maybe it is the ability to drive from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we go through each state? Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter? I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not excellent enough. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.
Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family and your belongings. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90 percent of teenagers own cell phones and computers.
How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we delight in that are the envy of everyone in the world? Maybe that is what has 67 percent of you folks miserable.
Fact is, we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world likes the U.S., yet has a fantastic disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don’t have, and what we despise about the country instead of thanking the excellent Lord we live here.
I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plot to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks?
The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me? Did you hear how terrible the President is on the news or talk show?
Did this news affect you so much, make you so miserable you couldn’t take a look around for yourself and see all the excellent things and be glad?
Reckon about it……are you upset at the President because he really caused you personal pain OR is it because the "Media" told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.
Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn’t have to go.
They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ”general” discharge, an ”other than honorable” discharge or, worst case scenario, a ”dishonorable” discharge after a few days in the brig.
So why then the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans? Say what you want but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in terrible news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner?
The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by "justifying" them in one way or another. Just question why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn’t kill his wife, but if he did he would have done it this way……Insane!
Stop buying the negativism you are fed everyday by the media. Shut off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more excellent than terrible.
We are among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative."
"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is a excellent time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"
Jay Leno
The United States of America is the most helpful and kind nation on earth. Thanks for this post.
Over 40 and yes, I know the history.
I reckon Colon Powell, said it best at the UN, (rough rephrase)
"For all we(the US) have done for so many countries, we have never questioned for anything in return, accept a piece of land to bury our own.
So, we really care what others reckon of us, face it, they do not like us. Not the UN nor the World Court to name a few biggies.
We are the ones who need to like us, so we remain the country God intended us to be.
Thanks! It’s excellent to know someone appreciates us!
If you listened to President Bush address the UN this week, he said that we currently donate 1/2 of the world’s food help.
He also wants to double our current donations to help countries who suffer from malaria and AIDS – from 15 billion to 30 billion. Yeah, American dollars.
I have been proud to be an American as long as I can remember and I want to encourage us to support President Bush as he continues to help others through us. We are so blessed, how can we not?
It’s sad that it takes an outsider to realize how much our country has sacrificed for others. Fantastic post Earnest.
Amen, brother. I am Conservative, but I’m so glad I read this.
