My mortgage company sent me my house deeds and told me my mortgage was redeemed?

Written By: admin on December 6, 2009 9 Comments

a month ago i called my mortgage company to pay my account and they told me why my account was redeemed in full since then i have questioned them who paid it because it was not us and they have sent us the title deeds with there charge removed and a letter saying and i quote " we are pleased to confirm your mortgage is now redeemed in full and we no longer require any payments from you again" since then they have changed there mind and now say they need us to pay our mortgage again. but i have had more calls from then one woman who i wont name for legal reasons saying "there is def money there to pay it off in full and the account is now inactive" then we get a call from a manager saying there never was any money there so when i told him the quote from the woman i spoke tosaying the money was transferred from a solicitor ( who has no record of any money Transfer from them i have called them) the manager said and i quote when i questioned where the money had come from and again i quote "it is not a customers money and is not at liberty to divulge that information" does anyone have any thought how we stand legally. some people seem to reckon it could be money laundering that went incorrect??? ay thoughts anyone and advice would be greatly appreciated

You have the title deeds with no mortgage showing, so have the upper hand. The bank or building society would have to issue court proceedings to try to reclaim your property and place a charging order on your home until the matter was resolved. If it came to court then the bank would have to show how it came to send you the deeds and where the money came from. Even if they wont divulge the information to you, they would have to do so in a court of law and you would find out then

If it was me I would tell them that unless you get the answers to your questions you will go to the national newspapers with your tale an tell them about how terribly the lenders have been in managing your account an what they are now trying to get you to do.
They may either settle this account as they already have done or reduce the amount you owe them in lieu of terrible publicity.
    It’s worth a try.
Also take legal advice, I reckon you will find they cannot claim back the deeds once they have written them off.

At worst you need to pay your mortgage. If they have redeemed the deeds and you have it in writing they have no case.

if you have the deeds, and in writing that its paid off i dont reckon they have any comeback, but speak to a solicitor

Simply: If your mortgage has not been paid off in full, then it’s still yours to pay despite whatever administrative cock-up the bank has made. Whatever has been going on, if you haven’t paid it off then you still owe the cash.

I don’t reckon any of us Yahooligans can answer this.

I didn’t pay it so I suggest you visit your lender in person.
This may have been a posting error to the incorrect account, yours.

I would get yourself a solicitor asap. There is defiantly something dodgy going on and your name and details have been bought into it. A solicitor will be able to direct you, or see citizens advice.
    Excellent luck

Hmmm, I see two possibilities here:

    1. Your bank as made an error and sent you a redemption letter + your deeds.

I would see a solicitor with all the documentation…you could be in a excellent position here, worst case would be you have to continue paying your mortgage.

    2. or someone else as really paid your mortgagee off (do you have any well off secret admirers…)

Dave is the ONLY one here who has accurately answered your question regardless of how much you WANT to believe the other responses.

Edited to add if you have stopped payments expect to be foreclosed upon.
