Is there a way to legally make husband pay for a home for us?

I live in Texas, and my husband is the genetic father of both of our children, they were both born after we got married.
I just found out my husband has a girlfriend. He is actually paying her mortgage. My kids and I live in one of the worst neighborhoods in town, but she lives on the rich side of town. I am the mother of 2 girls, one is 9, and the other is 4.5 and developmentally delayed (slow). I am not sure what I can do.

I want to leave him, but I have been a housewife for almost 11 years because he didn’t want me to work (only worked 6 months during that time at the request of my daughter’s physical therapist). I have looked for work but at the rate of pay I would earn, I cannot even afford an apartment for my children and myself on the really seedy side of town.
He started his own business about a year and a half ago. I have helped him with it, and actually do the accounting/bookkeeping for the company. If we divorce, does he get to keep the whole thing? Is there a way to force him to make rent payments for our home the way he does for hers?
I don’t want to stay with this man, but I have no place else to go, and I can’t stay here because he purchased the condo we live in about a month before we got married.
When I said I want to leave him, I meant that I intend to divorce him. I am just worried about supporting my kids after i leave. I don’t want to take a chance on him getting custody because I cannot afford to care for them properly.

Is there ever a time when you need to realise it isn’t going to happen for you?

Does there ever come a time when you need to admit that your dreams are something you simply aren’t going to realise?

More specifically, when do you say ‘I’m just not going to be that A-show/national level breed show rider’ and move on to different or more realistic goals?

I’ve been riding hunter/jumper for 11 years, and due to finances/lack of parental support/poor training when I was younger/etc. I have never progressed past jumping 2′ courses and doing one off-property schooling show. It has been my dream to travel and go to the A-shows, and begin riding other disciplines like dressage and western pleasure and show in those as well, and own show horses, for as long as I can remember.
I have done what I can to try and reach my goal by riding as much as I could (which turned out to only be one group lesson a week, sometimes less) during high school. I realised that in order to show horses at that level, I was going to have to get a well-paying, secure job, so I spent high school getting straight A’s so I could get into a good college.
Now that I have been accepted into pharmacy school and still have 4 years of school ahead of me before graduation, I am beginning to feel like while I will have a fabulous career, the dream that it was originally intended to support is not going to happen.
My first year of college, I had no way to pay for riding lessons and could not ride. Last year, I came back to it and was able to do semi-private lessons once a week. However, I still don’t feel like I have progressed much, and that every lesson I am attempting to correct the same problems over and over. I figured I just needed to ride more, so while I have been home over the summer, I got a job working at an A-show barn in exchange for free lessons. I have been riding 4 days a week, but every lesson I have had since then (even when I go back to my trainer from college for a visit) has been a disaster, and I can’t seem to do anything right. I feel like I have actually been riding worse.
And when I go back to school, my curriculum will intensify, and I will not have the time or money to ride more than once (occasionally perhaps twice) a week. Leasing a horse to get more practice that way is also out of the question- unless I won the “horsey-lottery” so to speak and found a lease that was well-trained, cheap, and available off-site, as the barns in the area are a minimum of 45 minutes away from campus.
And frankly, I feel if I am riding as much as I am now and not getting any better, then I may not even be cut out for the sport. I’m not sure how long I should continue to pour my limited funds and time into something if its not a realistic goal. I also fear that when I graduate, while I may have the funds to support expensive show horses and the lessons and show fees, I will not actually have the time to do so.

So my question is, how do you decide that you’re not going to end up being more than a casual trail-rider because it simply isn’t realistic? When do you decide that something isn’t a realistic dream? When is it too late in life to become a successful show rider?

Sophie B- I am not dreaming of being “Number 1,” I just want to show on more than a local level. If I’m not making it to Finals, so be it. Fun for me is being somewhat successful in what I do and competing to prove what I know.
If working at a barn were an option during the school year, I’d do it in an instant. However, as I mentioned in my question, lesson barns in my area are at least 45 minutes away from where I live, and I will be taking 17 hours of professional school courses and working an on-campus job already.
