ok back in 2006 i started a job with a tile company, they paid me under the table in personal checks and all were deposited into my personal checking account….now he never gave me any 10-99’s and told me that i didn’t have to claim any income from him. and if i was asked about it that i was to tell them i sold him household stuff from my house and that’s where the money came from…well it went on for 2 yrs and i had some trouble getting loans because they wanted to see a pay stub, well i switched jobs, now the old boss is being audited and called me and told me not to talk to the irs…am i possibly in trouble for not filing those taxes and if so, would it be to my benefit to tell them everything about the business he’s been running and avoiding taxes?

we dont know what to do now?

I know there are a lot of people in our situation, but it has got to the point where we dont know where to turn now, so a little advice would be great if anyone is willing to give it.

I had a job, but suddenly after three months the boss dismissed me telling me i was no longer required.

We cannot survive on one wage, my partner is working but hes not even making enough to cover all the bills never mind anything else such as food. To make things worse we got a bill for the electricity for £600. we got a letter the other day saying they are raising our payments to £160 per month to clear it. we called them and they will not listen when we say the money will not be in the bank to cover it as we just do not have that kind of money.

We are basically paying out £600 plus per month on other debts which have mounted up since i lost my job. 2 credit cards bills and a personal loan we got to pay off two other debts. Add to that our mortgage/food/other bills etc and we cannot cope anymore.

we basically have 2 months to come up with the money for the electricity bill, and we are only pying the minimum payments on the credit cards whitch is paying the interests only.

we have done all we can think off including getting rid of the tv licience, got rid of sky tv, got rid of my mobile phone contract, we stopped smoking a while ago, never go out anywhere, and we cannot think of anything else now.

Women and the economy?

So it’s ridiculous how bad the economy is, you can’t even get a job at Mc Donald’s. Not that that would even pay my bills, but still.

Does anyone think maybe it was more a “word of mouth” to get people in an up roar and fire or lay off people. Like the economy wasn’t that bad but more of a scare tactic? I don’t know what to think, but either way it sucks. And it’s even worse to get a job if you are a woman. It’s kinda sad that the stripper or hooker rate went up, I mean why should someone half to resort to that? I don’t blame those that have tried every single thing and have to take care of a family and isn’t in it to be a hoochie. I wonder how bad the government is going to let it get. And yes there are jobs women can do that men do, it’s just getting the boss to hire and even they aren’t hiring anyway.

Some might say, hey try to go back to school. There are people that would love to, but can’t afford it. Yeah there is financial aid and grants but they only cover so much, and some people can’t afford a loan and even if they get that degree, they are not guaranteed a job. I’m getting two job offers. How important is it to work at a big company to get ahead in an accounting career?

I dont exactly love what i do (accounting). I do it for whatever much i can make. I just graduated with a degree in Econ and minor in math in December 2008 and i am not yet 22. My strongest interest is the arts and i like to spend my evenings doing theater work. I have two job offers in my hand right now. One of them is a Client Finance Reporting Accountant position from an employment agency at one of the big law firms in downtown los angeles. I get paid 45,000 yearly there, and it is salaried, so overtime is a good possibility, specially during November, January and February. I’ve been warned that the boss is a very difficult person to work with. It comes with the perks that you usually get while working at a big firm. The other company is a small law firm in Orange County, where i get to work the traditional 7-8 hours per day, i am done with work at 5, and then i get to go home and get on with my life. I get paid 13 hourly for now; there is not that much training involved, i am an accounting assistant, so it is kinda related to what i’ve done so far. Everyone in my family is telling me to go for the bigger offer, but i know that it won’t allow me to pursue my dream. If i don’t go, then i feel like i cheated myself out of “career” growth opportunity. I see my other accountant friends working at such positions and i feel that I do not want to live like that. Am i just lazy? I would not mind working even 10- 12 hours daily if it was something that i liked to do, like theater work or painting. Does the regular 9 to 5 not cut it anymore for most finance/ accounting jobs?
