Since I was young I wanted to be a stay at home mom but now my priorities are a little different. I’m 24 and my boyfriend is 30 and whenever we talk about our future it’s me being a stay at home mom. I am soooo proud of myself that at 24 I making around 350K annually, I am completely independent and don’t ask for anything from my boyfriend even though he makes much more than I do. Here in the US I went to a private (close to $3,000/year) school for junior high and went to a private ($5,000) for my 1st yr of H.S. I spent only 3 years in High school by going to summer school and taking extra classes! Then I enrolled in a community college and graduated with Honors! I was on a EARNED partial scholarship.I also mentored students! I got married to my bf of 6 yrs and now we have a baby.I attended my 1st semester at a 4 yr univeristy WHILE pregnant but I now have to take some time off to care for my baby.Plus money is super tight! In May my Fiancé relocated to where I am. We are getting married next month. We both have two kids from previous relationships (his kids live away with their mom). I am 26 and was living with my parents so this is my first time living out on my own. I am a Full time student and Work full time. My day starts at 5:30am and I usually get home in the evenings around 8:30. When I get home, I have to then COOK dinner (and clean up afterwards), and tend to my 5 and 1 year olds. I am finished with housework and in bed around 12:00am.
Well, I am Very overstressed. I never see my kids, and feel very guilty that my Parents are raising them (since that is where they spend most of their time). I just want to be able to participate in events at my 6 year old’s school, and play outside with the baby. I don’t do any of this because I am always exhausted. Sometimes I am so exhausted; my parents have to even baby-sit for me on the weekends so I can get some rest. This summer his two kids are visiting and I am catching PURE HELL. I got so over stressed, my parents had to pick me up from work and take me to the ER. (Which I did not tell my fiancé about). He even wants his kids to stay with us full time! NO!!!!! When School goes back for my 6 year old, I know it is going to get worse, how am I going to help her with homework? Her bedtime is at 8:00 so how can I tuck her in if I am in class at that time? Who will teach the 1 year old potty training?
The nature of my fiancé’s work is commission-based and he is not making very much money so I pay most of the bills. Alright, so here’s the deal.

I’m stuck in my life. And I’m really confused as to what should be my next step. I already have this path that I’ve paved, but for some reason…it just doesn’t feel like the right thing to do.

Let me give you a little info:

I am going to college next year as a “freshman”, but I have enough college credits that I’ve accumulated in high school to be considered a “junior” (67 credits). However, not even half of my credits are applicable to the degree programs there, so I’ve pretty much lost a year. I will have to take out at least $10,000 in loans each year to go there. It looks like a really nice school, and I really want to go. But, I’m just really unsure because I don’t want to be up to my ears in debt. I know that I can always apply for more scholarships in the next year, but I’m afraid that it will only replace the huge amount of financial aid I’m receiving from the school to go there (it’s a private university that costs 40,000 per year). My parents are unable to help pay for college, so I have to go it alone.

I just lost my job, and I have very little in savings. So my financial situation isn’t looking so great right now. My question is, do you think I should get a new temp job and sacrifice my sanity and go to the school next year that I adore, just to be 30,000 in debt?

My alternative is to take a break from school and work my butt off getting a serving job and applying for a bunch of scholarships. I would like to go to a school in Seattle, as I just feel drawn there for some reason. I would feel a lot more comfortable going to school with as little debt as possible with as many credits transferring as possible.

Does anyone know of some great ways to get money for school, or any great sources? My mom’s EFC is under 4,000, and we are maxed out on pell grants. I would like to get as many scholarships as possible, but will that only detract from my gift aid?
