We keep going over budget, how do you stay within your spending limits?
My family and I are on a tight budget. My honey brings home $400 a week. We have his car payment $440 a month, car insurance $240 a month, cell phones $120 a month, and then of groceries, gas, diapers, formula which comes to about $275 a month. Currently we don’t have to pay for utilities, but we will be when we move. So we have $1075 going out ever month and $1200 coming in. We had to move in with my parents when he got laid off of work in February, so we aren’t currently paying rent. I am a full time college student and I tutor part time (which brings in an extra $200 a month). My college is all paid for through grants and scholarships and I get an extra $2000 a semester for living expenses.
So I’ve been working on a new budget and writing everything down that we spend, and if we just use a little self restraint I think we’ll be just fine. But is it really logical to even try to move out of my parents place when we’re getting $1400 (combined) a month and $1075 is going out? I can use the extra $2000 to get us into a place and even pay a couple months in advance if we stick to the budget…what would you suggest?
And please don’t judge…I’m just looking for help and advice.
