I know that when applying for financial aid for a private university, you more likely to receive more aid than for a public university. But, I want to know if you’re an out-of-state student applying for a private university, are you still qualified to receive federal grants as part of your financial aid packet?

Help. I need help finding ways to pay for college.?
I finished my freshmen year at an in-state public University. I’m want to transfer in the spring to a nearly $40,000 private university to play Division 1 tennis. The coach is offering me a little bit of a scholarship and says he will be able to give me more in the following years, but its currently not nearly enough to help pay.
To add on top of this, my father got laid off at the beginning of last year and had to dip into his 401k which put him into a higher tax bracket, so we got even less financial aid then last year. I’ve done a stafford loan to help pay, which has been sufficient for my current university, but now I really need help.
I’ve tried for some scholarships that I qualify for, but many are just pot luck, or essay based.
What other options do I have? How do I update a stafford loan so I’ll get more money in the spring?
Are there other kinds of aid or grants that I could try for?
Thanks for any help.

I can’t afford to go to college?
In my world, college defines who you are. Being one of the first in my family to go to college was an experience that Iâve looked forward to everyday in high school. College is considered to be the place where one makes their mark in society and shows what he or she has to prove to the world. Iâve chosen to attend a HBCU because of the history that is holds and how much I can learn about myself by attending a college that shows my history as well as the history of my peers. Johnson C. Smith was the perfect choice for me. With all of the changes and renovations being made to the college to enhance the heritage that has taken place it seemed as if there was no obstacle that can prevent me from attending such a historic university. Because Johnson C. Smith is a private University, the cost of attending such a prestigious college is very high. Financial aide seemed to be the obstacle in my way of pursuing college and getting the degree in which I intended to work hard for.
Growing up in a small town with very few prestigious individuals and history at all, Iâve always known that going to college was the choice for my future, I never considered that paying for it would be so costly, nor I considered that getting into the college of my choice would be so challenging, so instead of giving up and taking no for an answer Iâve decided to take a stand in an issue that seems so important to me and to many individuals going through the same circumstances. Finances should not be the reason one cannot further his or her education.
The college I want to attend is 20+k a year and i was considering transferring after a year to a college closer to home but i think i’ll enjoy this college but the amount i’m awarded plus loans is only 14k. i don’t know what to do. Please help me

What would you do if you were in my shoes?
Alright, so here’s the deal.
I’m stuck in my life. And I’m really confused as to what should be my next step. I already have this path that I’ve paved, but for some reason…it just doesn’t feel like the right thing to do.
Let me give you a little info:
I am going to college next year as a “freshman”, but I have enough college credits that I’ve accumulated in high school to be considered a “junior” (67 credits). However, not even half of my credits are applicable to the degree programs there, so I’ve pretty much lost a year. I will have to take out at least $10,000 in loans each year to go there. It looks like a really nice school, and I really want to go. But, I’m just really unsure because I don’t want to be up to my ears in debt. I know that I can always apply for more scholarships in the next year, but I’m afraid that it will only replace the huge amount of financial aid I’m receiving from the school to go there (it’s a private university that costs 40,000 per year). My parents are unable to help pay for college, so I have to go it alone.
I just lost my job, and I have very little in savings. So my financial situation isn’t looking so great right now. My question is, do you think I should get a new temp job and sacrifice my sanity and go to the school next year that I adore, just to be 30,000 in debt?
My alternative is to take a break from school and work my butt off getting a serving job and applying for a bunch of scholarships. I would like to go to a school in Seattle, as I just feel drawn there for some reason. I would feel a lot more comfortable going to school with as little debt as possible with as many credits transferring as possible.
Does anyone know of some great ways to get money for school, or any great sources? My mom’s EFC is under 4,000, and we are maxed out on pell grants. I would like to get as many scholarships as possible, but will that only detract from my gift aid?
should I just abandon ship, or should I take a dive and go to a school that is lovely but will cost me thousands?
Lastly, what job what you recommend I take? I am a very friendly, outgoing person and I think serving would make me a lot of money. I don’t like working in offices, and I’d like to be my own boss if serving is not my thing. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD HELP!
p.s. I have my associates degree.

Financial aid question about NYU and USC?
I am an NYU student considering transfer to USC.
I am curious about how much my financial aid will change. I have a lot of aid because of my economic situation, it’s not really based on academics.
So, has anyone ever made a transfer from NYU to USC, or transferred from one private university to another of similar stature?
How did your financial aid change?
Did your transfer college offer scholarships and grants?
Thanks alot!!!!

Do you think a private university is a waste of money?
I got a scholarship that covered about 2/3 of the tuition costs for a private college… (tuition was about $22,000/ $23,000, and I got a scholarship for $14,000… and then I got the Hope Scholarship for $5000 (but I don’t know if that was included in the $14,000 or not… plus, there’s still a lot of money for room and board, books, etc. … which makes the actual cost around $30,000)
When we were considering colleges, my parents were not open about money at all (although on a tax form I had to give for a scholarship I was applying for, I saw my dad makes about $100,000 a year, my mom works as an assistant, but I don’t know what she makes) They just said it wouldn’t be that much more than the private high school my sister goes to and I went to for them to pay the costs minus the scholarship. At the time, we were also considering a smaller public university and another, more expensive and prestigious college (the tuition was about 30 some thousand and total costs would be up to about $40,000. I got a scholarship there, too for about $15,000, but I said no, because I didn’t really like the school that much anyway, and I knew right off it would be WAY too expensive. (My mom saw reason but my dad isn’t very money smart, so he kept pushing.)
I ended up choosing the private college, because when I visited (quite a few times) I really liked it there, and I thought the smaller classes/ smaller school would be really good, and I’ve heard great things from the people that went there. So far, (haven’t actually been to college yet) I’ve really wanted to go there.
But, NOW, of all times, my mom keeps making comments about how expensive it’s going to be and blah blah… and I saw a bill in financial aid office and it was like $12,000 (which I guess… yeah, my high school was probab. about $8,000 a year…so …
And she said before that it wouldn’t be that much more than my high school… but I know what she’s thinking… that I take everything for granted and she has to pay all this just for my stupid school, and this is only my undergraduate school, and I might be going to more school later on… and it’s all about me and she has to sacrifice so much for me. And now she’s saying tuition increases by $2000 each year, so by senior year it will be $8000 more.
…. Plus, this year of all years, there have been things going wrong with the car, my mom has needed a surgery and stuff just happened.
Plus I don’t know… I am considering b/t majoring in psychology or something like chemistry… right now, I am leaning more toward psychology, b/c it is the one I like better, but I know it won’t make a lot of money, or at least not right away, and lots of money isn’t what I’m aiming for, so i don’t want my parents to get dumped with big bills that I’m not going to be able to pay and stuff like that.
Is it worth it??? should I back out and go to the other public college (if I still can?) What do you think????
However, generally there seems to determine the ARM (Adjustable Rate for you.The Advantages:1) Why am I choose the websites that you’ve Do you think a private university is a waste of money? found a loan in TownIf youâre undecided on a pinch in the fixed rate from a home refinancing. Financial aid at private university (CIIS) graduate program question?
I want to attend a graduate program at the California Institute of Integral Studies. But they have high tuition costs. It’s about $20,000 a year for full time tuition for the program. I am a poor and needy student. It it reasonable to assume that after the school gives me assorted grants and scholarships that my tuition costs will drop from $20,000 to $10,000 a year? Remember, this is a private university we are talking about and I don’t really know how much private universities tend to help out people who don’t have a lot of money.
