What is the best route when looking to get a home mortgage?

Should I go through my bank (Chase), a local credit union, or a Mortgage company? Is there one that usually gives better rates than the others, or is it more of a go and see kind of thing?

I always advise my clients to talk with at least 3 different lenders. Credit Unions tend to hold their loans, while others may sell them off to the secondary market. What you want to consider are the rate, and terms of each loan package that each lender offers. They could be somewhat different. Choose the package/lender that best suits your financial goals.
What advise on looking for a home?
Make a list with two columns; one column for what you "have to have" and the second column for what you would "like to have". Give this to your Realtor to help them search what you want. #3 listen to your Realtors advise.
